What Should I Prepare When Have Metal Castings for Quote?
Machined metal castings is Teamco’s core business. When you have metal castings for quote, please send us drawings for our review. Let us know your applications. All our services are customized.
What are features of metal castings?
Investment casting (also called Lost-Wax casting) is a production produces precise components while minimizing material waste and subsequent machining. Usually it fits complicated designs or those need high precision dimensions. The applications include oil & gas valve parts, fluid control metal parts, mechanical components, building safety locking hardware and marine hardware, etc. If there is desired casting surface finish after machining, we can apply surface treatment such as grinding, polishing or plating. Although machined metal castings can be used in various segments, there is genuine disadvantage during production, the casting porosity issue. Optimizing the tooling die design helps improving the defectiveness. Processing the machining is another way to discover the porosities or holes. For specific applications when such risks not allowed, we should proceed other production methods such as bar stock machining or forging. Please contact our sales team for further advises.
What are main materials of metal castings Teamco produces?
Stainless steel and carbon steel are the material types we produce the most, such as CF8 (304), CF8M (316), CF3 (304L), CF3M (316L), CB7Cu (17-4PH), WCC & WCB. We also produce alloys such as 4140 and Ti alloy according to customer requirements. The international material grades we usually follow are ASTM, AISI and UNS. If your material specifications follow European or Japanese standard such as DIN and JIS, we will compare main properties (such as chemical components, mechanical properties and heat treatment conditions, ect.) and let you know the equivalent material grades can be substituted for your metal castings.
My metal castings are assembly kit parts, can Teamco quote?
Yes, please provide us all part drawings and let us know the application which is quite important in our review. The design mechanism and assembly tolerances for different applications vary significantly. For example, required precisions for fluid control measuring device metal parts are higher than those for regular building hardware. Except dimension tolerances, the temperature and humidity of use environment and usage frequency will extend to different requirements of surface treatment, such as rust-resistance or wear-resistance. The more we understand your product application would help we proceed most suitable production procedures to fit the required quality and parts assembly.
What surface treatments enhance rust resistance?
There are several surface treatments used for machined metal castings to resist the rust, such as Electropolishing, Passivation and Zinc Plating. For some applications, such as building hardware and marine hardware, the metal parts usually require higher brightness; therefore we apply hand polishing which makes two surface finishing types, the Satin polishing and Mirror polishing. For metal parts of machinery and equipment applications, we may apply the hard chrome plating to increase the surface hardness, durability, rust resistance and wear resistance. If you need other types of surface treatments, please confirm with our sales team.
Can I machine the metal castings in-house, Teamco quotes for my castings only?
Basically we would recommend Teamco provides the machined castings. This is to make sure that the product quality fits your requirements. With genuine feature of porosity issue for casting production (such as shrinkage, gas holes and slag holes, etc.), some porosity would not be discovered till proceed the machining. If we provide the finished products, the hidden defects would be filtered at our side. This also helps clarifying responsibility when have quality non-conformance. We do not quote for casting only. This is to protect benefits of both Teamco and the customer.
